- Client's Need
I wanted to create an interesting thought experiment that would combine a small set of individuals brought together via social networking (primarily on Pownce and Twitter) to create a writing experiment. It was done entirely for my own enjoyment with no expectation of anything coming out of it except some cursory results.
- My Solution
Using PHP/MySQL, I created a small web application that allowed both author-level users and editor-level users. It implemented the rules of the experiment without prejudice on all authors and editors, but editors had the ability to override things if there was inappropriate content or someone was abusing the system. The first version did not have a polished user interface, and the second version was a significant upgrade. Unfortunately, the project did not gain much traction, though, as the ruleset for the first experiment was fairly restrictive. The next version will be much more fluid.
